Don’t worry. If you’ve passed the magic age to begin orthodontic treatment, you are not destined for a lifetime of misaligned teeth. It may be a relief to learn that orthodontic treatment can begin at almost any age. Children as well as adults can achieve orthodontic success through traditional braces, clear aligners, or another type of appliance.
In a perfect world, all children would see an orthodontist for an evaluation at or around the age of seven. This does not necessarily mean that children need braces or an orthodontic appliance at this young age. It simply means an early-age orthodontic screening can help determine the optimal time for beginning treatment.
If your child is over the age of seven, or if you are an adult who needs braces, it’s never too late to schedule an initial consultation with an orthodontist. Many children do not see us for the first time until they are teenagers. And, adult patients are quite common and make up a significant percentage of our patient base.
Your smile is one of the first things people notice when they meet you for the first time. Many parents want their children to benefit from the results of a straight and sparking smile as they grow into adults. Many people are aware that you never have a second chance to make a first impression. Therefore, it’s important to make sure your first impression makes a positive statement.
Braces are highly advantageous for quite a few reasons. As a matter of fact, braces can help with more than simply creating an aesthetically pleasing smile. Braces can also correct the following orthodontic issues:
- Speech problems that are a result of misaligned teeth
- Inability to effectively clean teeth because of crowding
- Difficulty chewing certain foods due to gaps between teeth
If you have any questions or concerns about braces, make sure to schedule a complimentary consultation. We are here to make sure you completely understand the orthodontic process, to help you make the best possible decision about your treatment plan, and to assure you that braces can affect your life in a beneficial way.
If you are an adult and would like more information about braces or clear aligners, don’t wait to schedule a consultation. It’s not uncommon for adults to want braces – even though they may have had braces when they were young. When teeth are not maintained with a retainer, they can gradually shift out of alignment. This is not an uncommon problem, but it’s a problem that can oftentimes be fixed with Invisalign® (clear aligners).
If you’re older than a teenager, there is no best time to undergo orthodontic treatment. If you are an adult, don’t wait any longer because there’s no reason to delay a complimentary consultation. During your appointment, you’ll be provided with quite a bit of information about your teeth, jaw, and bite. You’ll also learn about your orthodontics options and about how treatment may benefit you in countless ways.
