Braces for adults? You better believe it. We successfully treat patients of all ages in our friendly office that was designed for the comfort of everyone – regardless of age. When you’re here, don’t be surprised to see kids and adults waiting to be called for their appointment.
Adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment for any number of reasons. Some of the most common include:
- Crowded or Crooked Teeth
- An Underbite or an Overbite
- A Cross Bite
- A Painful Jaw Problem
- Spaces Between Teeth
- Previous Loss of Permanent Teeth with Restorative Needs
Straight Teeth… and So Much More
While braces might provide you with the straight teeth that you’ve always wanted, there are many other benefits to undergoing orthodontic treatment as an adult. Did you know that crooked teeth are more difficult to keep clean? Crooked teeth can actually contribute to the development of tooth decay and gum disease. Additionally, a misaligned jaw can cause symptoms such as headaches, snoring, and dizziness.
If you have misaligned teeth and/or you are experiencing any of the above-mentioned symptoms, please contact our office for a complimentary consultation. We are happy to examine your teeth, gums, and jaw, and to have an in-depth conversation about how braces might help improve your oral health and your overall quality of life.
Metal Braces? No Thanks.
As an adult, the thought of wearing traditional metal brackets for several months or years might leave you feeling apprehensive about the orthodontic process. However, there’s no need to worry. We have several options for adults that are hardly noticeable.
The most common types of braces that adults typically choose are:
- Ceramic Braces – clear brackets that blend with your teeth
- Lingual Braces – brackets are applied to the back of your teeth instead of the front
- Invisalign® – a series of clear, removable aligners are worn over the teeth
Sometimes, adults do opt for metal braces – which is perfectly acceptable and may result in a quicker treatment period.
Every person is unique, and one orthodontic method might be recommended over another to treat a specific problem. The best way to learn more about your optimal treatment plan is to schedule an informational appointment with our office. We want you to be happy with your choice and to experience the best possible outcome.
Should I See an Orthodontist or a General Dentist?
Many general dentists offer orthodontic treatment in their office – including options such as metal braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign®. However, we recommend that you visit us for a consultation if you are thinking about getting braces.
An orthodontist has advanced, specialized training to help adults with orthodontic issues that range from mild to complex. We’ve probably helped many other adults with problems similar to yours, and we have extensive experience with every aspect of the process. During your treatment, you should absolutely continue with bi-annual visits to your regular dentist for professional cleanings, exams, and all other dental procedures.
Will Braces Work?
Absolutely. In almost all cases, we can help adults achieve straight teeth and a healthy smile. In some situations, orthodontic treatment may take a little bit longer than it would for a young child or teenager. However, don’t let this dissuade you from learning more about how braces can benefit you in the long run. There’s nothing better than living the rest of your life with straight and healthy teeth.
